SINN Féin Councillor Seámus Morris described the realignment of the health service in the mid-west region as “dangerous lunacy” while he also declared that “people are going to die” at last week’s meeting of Nenagh Town Council.
Cllr Morris raised the issue in reaction to a letter the Town Council received from Deputy Noel Coonan. Nenagh Town Council had written to Noel Coonan (Fine Gael) asking the Deputy to “lobby for the retention of service in Nenagh Hospital”.
The council received a reply from Mr Coonan which indicated that the Deputy would do so.
Cllr Morris, however, revealed that since the council received the reply a prominent cardiologist at the hospital has been reassigned to Limerick Regional Hospital.
“Therefore the letter is not worth the paper it is written on,” Cllr Morris said.
