Cappawhite based FG Cllr Mary Hanna Hourigan was installed as new Chairperson of Tipperary Cashel Municipal District on Monday, at the Annual Meeting.

Cllr Hourigan was proposed by Cllr Michael Fitzgerald and seconded by Cllr Roger Kennedy. Cashel’s Cllr Martin Browne suggested they use the D’Hondt method of nominating the new Chairperson, a system which allocates seats to parties in proportion to the number of votes received. This was seconded by Cllr Denis Leahy. Cllr Browne said he believed the D’Hondt system was fairer for voters than the pact system operated by the local authority. However, this proposal was defeated. There were no other nominations for the Chair and Cllr Hourigan was installed unopposed without a formal election.
