Lough Derg access roads ‘need to be prioritised’

Tipperary County Council has been urged to carry out maintenance on the roads leading to Lough Derg from Coolbawn, Terryglass, Mota, Kilbarron and Luska.

Tipperary County Council has been urged to carry out maintenance on the roads leading to Lough Derg from Coolbawn, Terryglass, Mota, Kilbarron and Luska.

“They need to be prioritised and given attention. They are going to be a bugbear of mine,” declared Cllr Joe Hannigan at Nenagh Municipal District Council.

Cllr Michael O’Meara asked the council to contact eircom to remedy the ditches along the Birr to Portumna road where they had carried out work. “They are shocking. If you were a farmer and you did it you wouldn’t put your face out for a month,” he said. “They should be asked to come back and rectify it.”

“We are going back to the 25-year cycle of repairs that we had in the 1990s,” said Cllr Mattie Ryan. “The roads can’t be left in an awful state.”

Senior area engineer Michael Hayes told councillors that the council had spoken to NRA inspectors regarding the road surface outside the Glue Pot in Ballinderry and that it was on the 2016 programme.

“It’s light at the end of the tunnel,” he said.
