Roscrea Chamber Of Commerce would like to thank Laura Ryan from the Tipperary Regional Youth Service (TRYS) who gave a presentation on a scheme called the Work Winner Programme.
The programme targets young people between the ages of 18-25 years old, who are unemployed and in receipt of a social welfare payment. All participants opt to join the programme of their own free will, with the programme lasting 20 weeks approximately, with many working or training between 30-35 hours per week for no extra money.
Tipperary Youth Services aim to identify what each individual participant is interested in working at and what in terms of local employment are they suited to. The programme is run as a partnership between local businesses and stakeholders whose sole purpose is to move young unemployed people in Roscrea closer to the labour market. After the presentation and questions and answers session followed. The Chamber welcomed the initiative and pledged it’s support to Laura and the Tipperary Regional Youth Service. Laura Ryan asked could the Chamber help with providing some office space even if it was only once a week to help get the scheme running. In this regard the Chamber is grateful to RSU who are meeting Laura this week with a view to allowing TRYS use the RSU Office on Castle Street. The Tipperary Regional Youth Service needs a group of employers to support this scheme. There is no cost to the employer and The Tipperary Regional Youth Service provide full HR support to the Employer throughout the scheme. The scheme lasts twenty weeks and some of the most desirable work around Roscrea evolves around gaining experience in local factories, work with horses, green keeping and hotel work. Chamber Sec. Brian King has more information on the scheme. Email to email@example.com
