The Cathaoirleach of Nenagh Municipal District Council, Cllr Fiona Bonfield, has welcomed an allocation of an extra €118,000 in this year’s General Municipal Budget.
At last week’s municipal budget meeting it was confirmed that Nenagh would maintain its funding for Christmas lights and that Ballina and Newport would now receive €2,000 each for lights.

A new Tidy Towns initiative targeted towards high performing towns and villages has been introduced. A total of €20,000 has been secured for this. “Anyone interested in applying for this funding must draft up a proposal and submit it to the council,” she said.
The Estate Enhancement Scheme will also be available this year and €15,000 has been allocated and this. Funding is open to all estates. This will be advertised in the coming months.
Cllr Bonfield also confirmed that the Town and Village Enhancement Scheme and the Sports Tourism Grant have both been reinstated for 2015.
A total of €40,000 has also been allocated for local organisations. A committee is to be established to review applications for this. This scheme will be advertised shortly.
“I would encourage all communities and organisations to avail of these initiatives and if I can be of assistance to anyone in relation to these please do not hesitate in contacting me,” said Cllr Bonfield.
