Read all about the opening of the new wing at the Presentation Secondary School in Thurles.
It was indeed a day of celebration and an opportunity to cast an eye back at the past, while also looking to the future - a future that looks very bright considering the magnificent facilities which have been added in the last decade or so.
Minister Alan Kelly was on hand to cut the ribbon on the latest development while Archbishop Dermot Clifford blessed the buildings and wished all the students and staff who will avail of them, the very best.
Minister Kelly said that he was honoured to attend and was delighted to have been in a position to help steer the funding for the project to the Presentation. The 660 students in the school deserved every possible facility that can be made available, he said, and he congratulated the staff, the Board of Management , the parents and the students on their work over the years .
Minister Kelly had a special mention for Principal Marie Collins, Deputy Principal Mary B Lanigan-Ryan and Sr Fidelis, Chairperson of the Board of Management whom he described as “three formidable ladies” who know what they want and how to go about getting it. They have been instrumental in securing the best for the Presentation in Thurles and deserved great praise for their efforts, he said.
Well known TV personality Eddie Hobbs, a parent in the school , spoke about the energy and vibrancy which he witnesses at every visit. This comes from the top, he said, and he encouraged students to make the most of their time in the school, whether in the top grades or otherwise. “Therre is an awful lot you can achieve,” he said.
