An overlay is to be undertaken on Matthew and Castle Avenues in Thurles this week with the work expected to last between three and four days, Municipal District Enginner Mr Ruairi Boland informed councillors.

The work will enhance the streets greatly and will link up with further refurbishment work to be undertaken at Parnell Street/Cuchulainn road later in the year.

Matthew Avenue and Castle Avenues were both dug up recently to facilitate the installation of pipes underground for the replacement of water mains and the Thurles Regional Water Scheme with the result that the road carriage was in poor condition. The overlay will enhance the surface greatly.

Meanwhile overlay will also be undertaken on the Thurles - Two-Mile-Borris road and this work will commence in October. The surface will be greatly improved with this necessary work.
