Cllr Seamus Morris warned that the surface was “going to cause an accident”. He called for special funding for the work to be carried out.

However, Michael Hayes, area engineer, replied there was no specific grant this year for the work and the council was concentrating on buying land.

Director of operations Marcus O’Connor said they would get potholes repaired but the council didn’t want to be “wasting money on it. We accept fully what you say but we are not going to lead you up the garden path.”
