Songwriters Vincent Flynn and James Darcy played in separate bands for 10 years but have recently formed the duo ‘Master & Commander’.
The Cashel and Golden based duo released their debut single ‘This Time of Year’ on December 4th and within 48 hours had raced up the charts to be placed in the Top five in the iTunes Pop list.
The Christmas song jumped a staggering 180 places to number four in that short space of time. “We are completely blown away with the success, unreal” says Vincent Flynn, Bass player with local group, ‘The Wig Wam Glam Band’ Vincent also runs a very successful recording studio, the V-Room.
“The response has been phenomenal, we couldn’t be happier” says James, who doubles as lead vocalist with another local Pop-Punk band, ‘Futurism’.
Proceeds from the song will go towards Aoibheann’s Pink Tie a charity set up to help the children from St John’s Oncology ward in Crumlin Hospital. The organisation was set up in memory of founder Jimmy Norman’s seven-year-old daughter Aoibheann.
“It has completely taken us by surprise”, said charity co-founder Mick Rochford. “The reaction has just been phenomenal. It’s amazing how well it has done and it’s so important for us to be able to raise awareness of childhood cancer and raise funds for our organisation, which is run completely by volunteers.” A video for the single, which was produced and directed by another Wig Wam Glam Band member, Mark Fitzell, is also fast becoming a YouTube hit and features a local ‘Crumlin Princess’ four year old Ciara Casey from Dualla Road, Cashel. The video was placed just two spots behind chart-topping megastars One Direction and Lily Allen in the last few days. Vincent and James also performed the song at Aoibheann’s Pink Tie Benefit Concert in The Olympia Theatre, Dublin last week. The charity’s founders and ‘Master & Commander’ are calling on you to help place the single in the much coveted number 1 spot in the Irish iTunes charts this Christmas.
