West U.21 Hurling Championship

West U.21 Hurling Championship

Cashel opened their U.21 assault with a good win over Kickams on Sunday week last, 2-23 to 1-19. In a high scoring game it was Cashel that finished the game stronger. All through Cashel looked the more likelier side to go on and win but they certainly didn’t make it easy for themselves conceding far too many frees which Kickams duly converted. However, the signs are very positive that this group can continue to improve with each game and be right in the mix when this championship reaches its climax. Best for Cashel on the day were Jonathan Grogan, Kevin O Leary, Cormac Ryan and Simon Delaney.

Junior B Football Final

Our junior B footballers failed to repeat their heroics of 2012 but in defeat they pushed a strongly fancied Rockwell rovers side to the wire. Indeed had Cashel a little more accuracy in attack the result could well have been different. Playing against a stiff breeze in the opening it was all about containing Rockwell, and it was a mission going to plan but the concession of a goal right on halftime gave our opponents the lead 1-05 to 0-2. However the lads regrouped and dominated for long periods in the second half with Shane Slattery proving to be a thorn in the Rockwell defence. Slattery converted a penalty with fifteen minutes to play as Cashel laid siege to the Rockwell goal. A T J Connolly point put just two points in it as Cashel pushed hard in the dying minutes. But Rockwell hung on and claimed the West Championship 1-06 to 1-04. The Cashel players can be proud of their efforts and gave it one massive effort. Cormac Ryan, Edmond O Dwyer, John Darmody, Cathal Minogue, Ger O Dwyer and Shane Slattery were always to the fore.
