A Thurles man is to try and rekindle interest in a local shrine at Lady’s Well by enacting a walk from Killinan Cemetery, via Relig Bhride to arrive at Lady’s Well for the Angelus at 12 noon.

Bill Cooke quotes a reference to the well in 1432 in The Chronology of Thurles which claims that safe conduct was granted to all pilgrims wishing to visit Thurles on August 15th, for three days before and after the feast of BVM.

The walk goes Friar Street, Croke Street, Dehreen, Slievenamon Road and Turtulla to arrive in Lady’s Well at 12 noon. “Although not intended to be an organised walk, anyone wishing to renew the final steps of a long and ancient pilgrimage are welcome ,”Bill says.
