Sadly missed in this year’s parade organization was Pat Houlihan who over the past 17 years has kept the parade on the road and as a member of Muintir na Tire had given 38 years of voluntary service to our local and many neighbouring communities. Your participation and presence with family and friends at this year’s parade will be a tribute to his life and work.

By bringing together representatives from farm, industry, business, school, church and the many sporting and cultural organizations in our local community we can be proud as peacocks of all those that contribute to the ”circle of life” in so many diverse forms. All culture is dependent in the first instance on agriculture, horticulture, market gardening, and in recent years the technology associated with agro-industry and agricultural contracting. The presence of many Vintage groups from our own and neighbouring villages in all our parades remind us that our roots are in the soil, bogs and limestone quarries of “sweet Tipperary”.

This year’s Grand Marshall will be Mrs Jo Jo Treacy in recognition or her many years of work as a teacher in Littleton N.S. In consultation with our local schools this year’s emphasis for the children will not be on competition but on being present, and adding to the fun and enjoyment of the occasion. Some years ago at a meeting of the Littleton Tidy Towns Committee, one of our now senior citizens, Mary Hayes, to counter-balance a lot of negative gossip about the village voiced the phrase “I love Littleton”. Colourful stickers with this phrase will be distributed at the parade.

The committee is thankful to all who, over the years, by their generous financial contributions have made the parade possible and to all participants who have put time, effort and resources into preparing floats. We appeal to all villagers to put out flags, bunting and help our dedicated FAS team in keeping the approach roads free of litter. Prizes will be awarded by an independent group of three outside judges in the following categories-Overall, Marching, Best Parish Entry, Best Visitors, Juveniles, Comedy, Culture, Promotion of Irish, Shop Window Display, Committee Special Prize, Individual Prize, Environment and Business. Prize-giving night will be in the Turf Club on Sat. 23rd March.

We hope that our “smart phone” enthusiasts will through the world wide web send images of the parade to the many whose hearts may still be “ at home in old Ireland”. Anyone who can help with stewarding on the morning please contact Eddie Loughnane 086-6078041.

As we pray the blessings of St Patrick on all our work and leisure hope that this 17th annual Littleton parade will surprise us all with joy and happiness. Please bring along your enthusiasm, your family and friends.
