Roundabouts needed for Cashel’s Main Street, Friar Street - Browne

'Very difficult' junction in Cashel
Cllr Martin Browne called on Tipperary/Cashel Municipal District to consider installing “bubble roundabouts at the junctions of Main Street/Friar St. and Bank Place Cashel and at the junction of Dualla Road and Friar Street.”

Cllr Martin Browne called on Tipperary/Cashel Municipal District to consider installing “bubble roundabouts at the junctions of Main Street/Friar St. and Bank Place Cashel and at the junction of Dualla Road and Friar Street.”

Engineer Aidan Finn said the Main Street/Friar St. area was a “very difficult” junction. The idea of re-designing the road layout will be put to the design office “to see if anything can be done.” Cllr Tom Wood said the biggest problem was the number of trucks coming down the MainStreet and swinging by the City Bar. “You would have to drive over the roundabout. The Croke Memorial had to be removed. It’s a very difficult location. There used to be a mirror there to help motorists from Friar Street.” Cllr Roger Kennedy said there was no “filter” of traffic coming from Friar St. Upper meaning traffic often became congested around the Main St./Friar St. junction. Mr Finn said they would consider re-ling that junction. “It’s very cheap to do lining. If that does not work we will get of some (parking) spaces.”
