Beating off stiff competition, Upperchurch native, Nóirín O’ Dwyer was awarded an impressive silver for her scrumptious “Nóirín’s Basil Pesto” at the recent Blás na hÉireann, National Irish Food Awards, hosted in Dingle, Co. Kerry.
Blás na hÉireann now in its 7th year, recognises the best tasting Irish food and drink products and the passionate producers who make them. It is the biggest blind tasting competition in Ireland with over 2,000 Irish products entered in 90 different categories. Winners across the country were awarded gold, silver and bronze in each category. The judging system, which was developed by Blás na hÉireann in conjunction with the Food Science Department of University College Cork, is now recognised as an international industry standard.
This is Nóirín’s second award at Blás na hÉireann, having taken home a bronze for her Rocket Pesto at last year’s awards ceremony; there is now no doubt that Nóirín’s products are delicious. Nóirín has recently completed an MSc in Food Product Development at DIT and is now focused on spreading the “Nóiríns” phenomena for 2015. Her products, a range of fresh, gourmet spreads and sauces includes; Basil Pesto, Coriander Pesto, Rocket Pesto, Mushroom and Aubergine Pesto, Chickpea Hummus and Beetroot Ketchup. All products are handmade using fresh ingredients, incorporating both local and Irish produce using; vegetables from local Tipperary growers, Organic Rapeseed Oil from Second Nature Oils, Honey and Sarah Bella Extra Virgin Olive Oil from Mileeven and Irish Regato cheese from Imokilly.
“Nóirín’s” range is available locally in; Premier Meats Thurles, Joey O’ Dwyer’s Butchers Borrisoleigh, Eurospar Templemore, O’ Dwyer’s Grocery Store Upperchurch and Martin O’ Dwyer’s Butchers Cashel.
