Help our Reading Tree Bloom at Thurles Library

It’s that time of year again, when the Library concrete walls become festooned with 40 shades of green, as our Reading Tree takes root! Held every July and August, we are asking children of all ages to help our Reading Tree grow by taking part. It’s so easy to get involved.

Sign up in the Library and you can add a leaf to our tree for every book you read. Read 6 books or more and you’ll be presented with a reading certificate and medal at our party in September! Remember library membership is FREE for children.

The Reading Tree is a fun way for children to keep up the reading habit when on school holidays as it helps children discover the pleasure and excitement of books. When children read what they enjoy, they learn to love reading and become better readers.

Also, in Thurles Library we are now happy to offer reduced membership and Internet rates. Not only is children’s library membership free, but it is FREE for children to use the Internet too, and now €1 per hour for adults. From May 2011 we have introduced reduced membership rates for post-secondary school students and social welfare recipients of €1.50 per year. This gives you full access to library stock, from books, audiobooks, CDs, DVDs and our online services. Now even more reasons to join your local library!

Diocesan Pilgrimage to Knock

The Cashel and Emly Annual Diocesan Pilgrimage to Knock will take place on Sunday, 7th August. This is the first Sunday of August and is our usual Sunday, however, this year it is not the August weekend and I just want people to know in time and to please keep this day free as we would appreciate if as many as possible would travel with us as our numbers are declining due to age and other difficulties and make our day in Knock extra special. The Pilgrimage will be led as usual by His Grace Archbishop Dermot Clifford and our Spiritual Director is Fr. O’Connell. The Diocesan Choir will be the main choir and our readers will be chosen from all over the dioceses. For further information please contact Fr. O’Connell or Bridget Keane at (0504) 21096.
