Deputy Mattie McGrath has strongly backed the family and supporters of the late Fr Niall Molloy who are calling for a full public inquiry into his death.

The call comes following confirmation from the Office of the DPP that no new charges will be brought after a new file was submitted to the office by Gardaí earlier this year.

Deputy McGrath, who has been calling for a full and transparent investigation into the case, challenged the Taoiseach in March to respond immediately to the concerns of the Molloy family around the scale of the cover up surrounding the murder of Fr Molloy in 1985: “It seems incredible that given that the amount of detailed evidence that both the family and investigative reporters like Veronica Guerin and Gemma O’Doherty have uncovered that the DPP has now confirmed it will not be laying new charges as a result.
