Multi million Euro project announced

Our Lady’s Secondary School in Templemore is set to be completely transformed with a massive multi-million euro investment, following an announcement last Wednesday by Education Minister Ruairí Quinn that the school is to be included in the government’s J150m stimulus programme. Staff, parents and pupils have reacted with delight at the huge vote of confidence in the school and its wider hinterland, said Principal Patricia Higgins.

The major extension and refurbishment “is the culmination of over 10 years of planning, campaigning and lobbying by the school authorities and will result in a major modernisation and expansion of the school’s infrastructure,” said Principal Higgins. The project will involve the construction of a new wing which will house three state-of-the-art science labs, a demonstration room, a multi-media learning laboratory, new woodwork, building construction, engineering and art rooms, as well as three new classrooms. Construction work - which is set to begin in the next few months, and should last about a year - will give a “much needed employment boost to the area”, added Ms Higgins.
