North and South to benefit from allocations

An additional €2.7m for local road repairs has been announced by Junior Minister for Public Transport Alan Kelly. The funding will increase Tipperary’s roads restoration grant by almost a third for this year.

The funding comes from the additional €50m allocated to regional and local road repair as part of the Government’s stimulus package announced last week. The boost will see an additional €1.3m going to North Tipperary County Council and an extra €1.4m being allocated to South Tipperary County Council.

The funding will be used mostly for r-surfacing works to be decided by each local authorit,y but could also be used for safety schemes. It will be up to each local authority to decide where to spend the additional funding.
