Great Club - In recent times a knitting club was set up in Cuan Bhride, Rathdowney. We meet every Monday from 2 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. and are going from strength to strength.

Namely work with wool there are some very expert knitters in the club and the work turned out is very beautiful. Apart from the knitting skills the camaraderie among the ladies is just wonderful, so every Monday all the worries are left behind as we get going with the needles and some excellent wool.

Well Done - Bill O’Brien who is a pupil in the Heath N.S. has been very successful in the Community Games Arts Competition. He came 3rd in Laois in the Boys U/12 and was presented with a Bronze Medal. The presentations were made by Sarah Moore. Bill is a very keen artist and does fantastic work. He is also very keen on sport. He is the son of Liam and Deirdre O’Brien, Ballydavis. He has a little sister Aoibhe and is the grandson of Betty O’Brien who prides out of the third Billy O’Brien.

The Late Anne Maher - The death occurred at Birr Community Nursing Home on Saturday, April 16th of Mrs. Anne Maher, (nee Plunkett) of Frankfurt, Dunkerrin. A most remarkable lady, she endeared herself to everyone with her unique personality and gentle manner. She was a regular visitor to Rathdowney and was always very welcome. Anne was predeceased by her husband William. She is sadly mourned by her sons Liam, Thomas and Eamon, daughters Nora (Ryan) and Josephine (Ryan), Rathdowney, Kathleen Greed, Anne Fanning, sister Liz Dermody, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and a wide circle of friends. Reposing was at St. Patrick’s Funeral Home, Dunkerrin. Removal took place to St. Mary’s Church, Dunkerrin. On Tuesday, April 19th Requiem Mass was celebrated and followed by burial in Dunkerrin Cemetery. May her noble and gentle soul rest in peace.

Bingo - Bingo takes place in Rathdowney Community Centre every Tuesday night at 8.30 p.m. Great prizes plus raffle. Do come along, everybody welcome.
