About Town -
Roscrea Junior Comhaltas
We have almost reached the end of the last year in the first decade of the twenty first century and we are happy to say that 2010was another successful year for our members. The first honours were bestowed in January when four of our membersnamely Cian Hanamy, Darragh Carey Kennedy, Tadgh Maher and John Browne were recipients of the Roscrea People of the year awards. The branch itself received an award at the same event for its hosting of the 2009 Munster Fleadh Cheol. During the year we had large entries from the branch to the Tipperary and Offaly Fleadh's with members progressing to provincial finals and ultimately All Ireland success once again. Many thanks to the teachers and tutors involved. As usual members contributed to many local charitableevents byproviding some fantastic musicalentertainment. We had some great sessions in various establishments around the town and hopefully they will resume in the New Year and we are planning to hold Sunday evening sessions once a Month where young and old will come together to display their talents. The Junior members had a terrific evening of carols and Christmas melodies recently with all the monies collected going to charities, they also entertained the residents and staff of The Dean Maxwell Centre assisted by some senior members. To the outsiders it may have seemed that we were not very active but there were times when members had to devote a lottheir spare time to accommodate the demand on branch members. We wish to take this opportunity to thank everyone who made the last year a success. The branch tutors, music teachers, Parents, all who supported our fund raising ventures, but most importantly our Junior Members for without their input there would be no branch activities. Keep up the good work and keep the branch going from strength to strength. We wish to take this opportunity to extend seasons greeting to everyone and hopefully it will be a prosperous New Year. Nollaig Shona gach aon dhuine.
Walking in a Winter Wonderland
What better way to shake off the excesses of Christmas AND raise money for a worthy cause than to go for a good walk?!
Join Roscrea Hospice on St Stephen's Day for a walk through the beautiful surroundings of Golden Grove.
We will meet at Dromakeenan Car Park at 10.45am and the walk will begin at 11am. The walk will last about an hour and a half and will end back at Dromakeenan. Bring your family, bring your friends, bring your neighbours! Don't forget to wear suitable clothing and footwear (some of the walk might be a little bit mucky!). We will be collecting donations on the day and all the money raised goes directly to the Roscrea Branch of North Tipperary Hospice, providing vital Hospice services to the terminally ill in our community.
If you have any queries please contact Mary McHugh on 087 7736438 or Carmel Moloney on 087 9002900
We look forward to seeing you on the day!
Killavilla Women's Group
The Annual General Meeting of the Killavilla Women's Group due to take place on Wednesday night last was cancelled due to weather conditions and will now take place on Wednesday the 2nd February 2011.
The contribution requested from the local Business Community towards the Christmas Lights is €95.00. The Chamber has not increased the requested contribution this year in light of the current economic difficulties. However, if we are to continue enjoying Christmas Lights in Roscrea over the forthcoming years then it is imperative now more than ever that all businesses make a contribution to the cost of the lights. All businesses that give their contribution will be issued with a shop front window sticker stating that their business has supported the Christmas Lights and the general public are asked and encouraged to support those businesses. Jo Jo Cunningham has kindly volunteered her time to help the Chamber collect the Christmas Lights contributions. Alternatively contributions can be left in to the Credit Union for the attention of Chamber Secretary, Brian King and your support sticker will be made available to you.
