Nenagh Gardai investigate report of assault on youths camping near Castlelough

The Gardai in Nenagh are investigating an incident outside the town in which four youths who were camping were allegedly assaulted.

The incident happened at Castlelough, Portroe, on Saturday, July 5, at around 3.15am. It is believed the campers were approached by a number of individuals and that one young man was struck on the nose with a hurley.

The gardaí arrived on the scene and are still investigating the incident. it is thought a file will later be sent to the DPP.

The Gardai recovered around €5,000 worth of metal that was stolen from Lisboney Industrial Estate last weekend. The burglary was reported on Monday morning. The gardaí found the stolen material in a horse box and are believed to be following a definite line of enquiry.

There was also a number of other burglaries in the district over the last week. Jewellery and cash was taken from a house at Fancroft, Roscrea, last Tuesday week. A generator and a number of tools were stolen from a building site at Castletown, Portroe, some time between Tuesday and Thursday last.

Meanwhile, a number of people were arrested for public order offences in Nenagh last week.

In one incident, gardaí responded to reports of a man kicking cars, knocking on doors of houses, and trying to instigate fights in the Borrisokane Road area at around midnight on Monday. He was arrested and is due to before Nenagh Court.

Two females were arrested for public disorder on Kenyon Street at around 3pm on Tuesday, June 30. The females were reportedly fighting and throwing items at each another.

Nenagh Gardaí received two reports of a motorist driving off without paying for fuel at a service station in Birdhill on Tuesday and Wednesday of last week.

Meanwhile, gardaí are appealing to cyclists to be wary of road safety on the R445 (old N7) cycle lanes following a number of complaints from motorists over cyclists using the main road rather than in the lanes themselves. Some cyclists are reportedly cycling two-a-breast. Gardaí are advising cyclists to use the lanes provided for fear of an accident occurring.
