A total of 62 full time and 135 part time students at Colaiste Eile collected their well earned awards in the college last Wednesday following completion of their Fetac and BTEI further education courses.
The awards ceremony also saw several students receiving awards for the coveted Student of the Year title- a special award handed out to students who have excelled in their respective courses over the past year.
Recently elected Tipperary County Cathaoirleach Cllr Seamus Hanifin was also on hand to present the Peg Hanafin perpetual Cup and bursary on behalf of his mother who was a former co-ordinator at the adult education college. Antoinette Doyle was the worthy recipient of the award and €1,000 bursary sponsored by Tipperary Education Training Board. Other students who collected student of the year accolades were John O’Meara, John Vahey, Jeremiah Nolan, Billy Skehan and Edward Stapleton.
College Co-ordinator Dr. Lorenz Egan addressed a packed auditorium of students and guests using the late Steve Jobs as an inspirational figure in his speech. Giving a brief summary of Mr Jobs life as well as the challenges and successes he faced, Dr. Egan made the point to the students that every learning experience helps you on your way and presents its own set of opportunities which may not always be apparent right away.
Dr. Egan also said that there has been a marked increase in the number of students securing employment following completion of courses in Colaiste Eile in the last 12 months.
