Nenagh Gardai arrest man with hatchet and wearing balaclava

A man wearing a balaclava and carrying a hatchet was arrested in Nenagh early this Monday morning following a Garda chase.

A man wearing a balaclava and carrying a hatchet was arrested in Nenagh early this Monday morning following a Garda chase.

The man was spotted in the vicinity of the Abbey Court Hotel on Dublin Road by Gardai on mobile patrol at around 5.30am on February 16. The man attempted to run away but was pursued on foot. He was eventually restrained following a struggle and arrested.

The man, who is in his mid-20s and from Nenagh, was subsequently charged with possession of an offensive weapon.

Meanwhile, Nenagh Gardai have arrested two young local men in connection with a spate of break-ins to cars between Roscrea and Nenagh last week. The incidents happened during foggy weather.

A small quantity of cocaine valued at around E20 was found during the search of a house at Parkmore Manor in Roscrea last Thursday, February 12, which was carried out as part of a major operation that saw E40,000 worth of drugs seized that day in the town. In a second related search at Brophy Terrace drug paraphernalia was recovered by the gardai.

Two people were arrested in Nenagh for having small amounts of cannabis for their own person use on February 14 and February 15.
