Nenagh Municipal District Council will meet this Thursday to sign off on funding for various festivals and events in the area for the coming year.
The highest amount being proposed is €20,000 for the Fleadh na Mumhan committee which has brought the Munster Fleadh to Nenagh for the first time. The fleadh will take place from July 12 to 19 and is expected to attract 20,000 visitors.
Nenagh’s St Patrick’s Day parade will receive €10,000, as will the Thomas MacDonagh Commemoration committee in Cloughjordan. A total of €7,000 is being earmarked for this year’s Visit Nenagh Classic. The same amount is to be put aside for Nenagh Childcare Centre. Nenagh’s Spleodar festival at Halloween is to get €5,000, with €5,000 going to the People’s Picnic in Nenagh castle grounds. Nenagh Twinning is to receive €3,000.
Newport and Borrisokane are each to receive €2,000 for their St Patrick’s Day parades. Ballina St Patrick’s Day parade will get €600; Kincora traditional weekend, €800 and the Brian Boru Festival, €600.
