Borrisoleigh annual 10k run for St Stephen’s Day

Borrisoleigh will once again host it`s highly successful St. Stephens day 10k run/walk for the third year in a row, with all proceeds in aid of the Borrisoleigh community centre.

Borrisoleigh will once again host it`s highly successful St. Stephens day 10k run/walk for the third year in a row, with all proceeds in aid of the Borrisoleigh community centre.

This years event has undergone a slight revamp of the layout of the run with the 10k now being ran on the main Nenagh to Thurles road.

The walk/run will start in the square in Borrisoleigh at 11.am. Runners and walkers can registers in the Community centre from 10.am. The 10k run will be on the main road to Thurles and will not be covering any of the side roads. The 5k walk will start in the square and cover the walking track in the GAA park.

Organiser of the event John Walsh is hopeing for an even bigger crown than last year and is especialy appealing to all surrounding “Fit 4 Life” groups to bring their members and take part.

While their is a competeitve side to the race with many fine athletes putting up some fantastic times last year their is also a relaxed side with many choosing to walk or complete the run at a more liesurely pace.

Special guests this year will be Borrisoleigh`s three Tipperary stars Captain Brenden Maher, Paddy Stapleton and Conor Kenny along with the towns newly elected Mayoress Patrice Cooney.

Entry fee is by way of donation in the centre when registering. Their will be spot prizes on offer aswel as prizes for the winners. All are welcome and this year the organisers want to see as many families as possible, all out enjoying the day. John Walsh, who has organised the event for the past number of years is keen to build on last years success, “last year we promted the idea that these events are developing an ethos of healthy living and we hope to build on that and also on last years numbers, last years events was a great success and we hope this year will be even better”.

Tea and refreshements will be available in the Community centre afterwards. There will also be rooms available for changeing in the community centre and the road race will be marked out. Times for all runners will be recorded.
