Last week’s very well attended meeting of Roscrea Tidy Towns included members from various Residential Associations.

Wide-ranging discussions took place on a number of projects which will be in our application in the National Tidy Towns Competition 2015. The first priority is continued improvement in the whole area of Litter Control by appealing to the Business Community and the General Public to be ever-vigilant and by increasing our litter patrols involving our C.E and Tus employees and Tidy Towns volunteers. The Chairman, Mr. Denis Ryan stated that the Library Field Project would recommence early in the New Year and will be completed by the first of June 2015. A programme of Painting and Power-Washing will be carried out by our Community Employees; other projects in the Colaiste Garden, Daisy Bates Garden, Graveyard Entrance, Waterhole, upgrading of our wildlife and insect gardens will be completed by judging time. A meeting with County Council engineers regarding our wish list of works to be undertaken by the council, will take place in the next few weeks. A number of old farm machinery pieces are at present being prepared and painted and will appear in a suitable site in town in the New Year.

The Committee are happy to support our residents associations with small financial grants and in other practical ways to help them improve their areas. The committee are asking all volunteers- including volunteers in housing estates to ensure their names are included in the Tidy Towns insurance policy by contacting our Secretary, Rose Crofton, or any committee member with their name. The possibility of other fundraising events in the New Year was discussed - so as to continue the progress achieved in the past few years. After a hard-working and successful year it is time to relax and party. The meeting decided to take a two-month break to recharge our batteries and resume work in February. The annual Dinner and Party night was set for January and members will be notified nearer the event. The committee would like to thank all our volunteers, C.E and Tus employees, Co. Council staff, business community and all our supporters either financial or other ways for their wonderful support in 2014. We wish you all a Happy and Peaceful Christmas and a Prosperous New Year and we look forward to your continued support in 2015. Please support our local business this Christmas and help Roscrea expand in 2015.
