Tipperary TD Noel Coonan has welcomed the restoration of almost €1.3m in funding to 30 organisations nationwide who provide crucial support and services in the health and disability sector.
“This is extremely welcome news for individuals and families associated with groups such as Arthritis Ireland, Irish Heart Foundation, Irish Deaf Society and Dyslexia Association of Ireland to name a few,” said the Fine Gael TD.
“The funding has been made available for 12 months; and it is crucial a successful model of funding is implemented by the Department of Environment following that time period,” said Deputy Coonan.
“The 30 organisations all rely on Departmental funding to provide support systems in our local towns and villages and it came as a shock that funding had been withdrawn.
“I contacted the Department recently asking for the vital funding to be reinstated and I am pleased to see my lobbying was fruitful,” said Deputy Coonan.
“Thirty organisations who were unsuccessful in their applications under the Scheme to Support National Organisations (SSNO) but who had received funding previously from the scheme up to June 30, 2014, and submitted a valid application in 2014 will benefit from the announcement,” concluded Deputy Coonan.
