Transition year students from Cashel Community School were delighted this week as they scooped the overall Bronze award at the Young Social Innovators Showcase in Citywest in Dublin on May 7th.
Ths students were creating awareness about Concussion in sport and have been working hard all year with their campaign. They created Concussion awareness posters for schools in Tipperary , visited local primary schools and worked on an animation clip in LIT campus Clonmel ,Tipp FM played their Concussion Awareness song, composed and sung by TY student Brain Treacy .The group worked closely with Acquired Brain Injury Ireland too, under the guidance of Mary Heffernan.
Their teacher Ms. Caitríona Ryan said she was bursting with pride as they collected their award , they have been a brilliant group to work with and showed such tenacity and passion at all times.
The students plan to continue their campaign next year, they hope to complete a Concussion school resource and website so Concussion Education becomes a reality in all schools. The students have their own twitter page #ccsysi and their Facebook page is ‘Without Your Brain You Have No Game’.
