Members of South Tipperary ICA Federation made their annual visit, in September, to An Grianan, the ICA Adult Education College in Termonfeckin, Co. Louth.
During a week, spent in and around the beautiful grounds of the College, the South Tipperary ladies had a chance to engage in activities and classes with members from other ICA Guilds from Dublin and Roscommon.
The College provides a wide range of courses and the ladies from South Tipperary attended many diverse and interesting classes, including classes in Encaustic Art (hot wax painting that originated in Ancient Egypt). The resulting pictures were framed and put on display. Other courses selected were: Cookery: Varied dishes and mouth watering desserts. Amulet Purses and Beading which resulted in members going home with beautiful jewellery and beaded purses.
Stained Glass: Mostly sun catchers and decorative jewellery – a vision of colour and sparkle. Other members took classes in wool and cotton crochet (beginners), where the basic stitches were mastered in the hope of doing better at home.It was a busy week, but some ladies found time to enjoy the College’s close proximity to the beach for evening walks. Others simply enjoyed the excellent food on offer and the enjoyable evening entertainment filled with songs, dancing and recitations. The ladies would like to extend their sincere thanks to Mrs. Kathleen Dalton, An Grianan Teachta, for organising the week and making sure everyone had an enjoyable stay. Next year’s designated week for members of South Tipperary ICA is 1st to 5th September, 2014
