The Visit Nenagh.ie cycling team has been congratulated by Visit Nenagh chair Cllr Virginia O’Dowd on their showing in this year’s An Post Ras, which included a stage finish and start in the town.

Mehall Fitzgerald took three County Rider jerseys during the week and has presented one of them to Visit Nenagh, while the team finished in sixth place overall in the County Team classification.

Cllr O’Dowd said this was a major achievement considering Michael Butler failed to make the time limit because of punctures and Eoin McCarthy struggled through a stomach bug before having to retire. She said the efforts of Simon Ryan had greatly contributed to the sixth place finish.

Matt Slattery finsihed at the top of the race on the last stage, just 10 seconds behind the stage winner, to take third in the County Rider category on the day.

Cllr O’Dowd also paid tribute to team director Rene van Dam and his back-up squad for all the work they put into the race, as well as the team’s sponsors.
