The Cashel Chamber of Commerce are pleased to announce that they have secured a stage in this year’s Cannonball Run. Cashel will host the final Sunday stop-over of this rally around Ireland, subject to financing the charity event.
There will be 150 supercars in Cashel on Sunday August 25th as part of the Cannonball Run. This event is expected to attract over 3000 people to the Heritage Heart of Tipperary.
Sean Laffey President of the Cashel Chamber of Commerce said.“This is a major tourism opportunity and a chance for motorsport fans to see some of the world’ fastest cars in the centre of Cashel. There will be Ferraris, Maseratis Lamborghinis, Lotuses, American Muscle Cars, and some other high powered luxury sports cars of unmatched design
“Cashel will be a major stop off on the annual Cannonball Run which raises thousands of Euro for the Laura Lynn Children’s Hospice in Dublin. I am very grateful to John McHugh of the Tipperary Raceway for suggesting Cashel as the key stop over on the final Sunday, it will be a marvelous boost to tourism in the town in the third week of August. There will be an open meeting on the event at Billy Foley’s Bar at 8pm on Wednesday June 5th.
Sean said “what need for this to happen is for the businesses and tourism community to buy into the event. We believe this has the potential to be of the same scale as the Red Bull Air, and of course this is right in the heart of Cashel, the cars will be on mainstreet and there will be a fantastic carnival atmosphere around town. We would like to invite businesses and private individuals to sponsor Cashel’s involvement in the Cannonball Run 2013. We need to raise around €12,000 to bring the event to town and do it the justice it deserves. As you can imagine it is a massive logistical undertaking, for example we have to feed some 350 people ( the drivers and their navigators) so a fair proportion of the fund raising will be spent locally. The event will also have a number of entertainment elements such as live bands, street entertainment and Samba dancers, maybe even a fly past.
“The event will be FREE to the public and we hope to make a big weekend of it with some motorsport on Saturday August 24th as well as the big rally in town on August 25th. When the event visited Dundrum last year it drew a crowd in excess of 3000, we are expecting similar numbers in Cashel on August 25th.And remember it is for a really good cause, LauraLynn the only Children’s Hospice in Ireland.
“If anyone would like to come forward with corporate or private sponsorship, please text your name to 0879821916 or call me directly on 06262685. We will be discussing this at the meeting in Billy Foley’s on Wednesday 5th June at 8pm. The Chamber is really excited about bringing this world class event to town and we are sure there will be many in the business and private community who will generously support the event.”
