Tipperary Man Dies In Tree Felling Accident

THE parish of Portroe was in mourning this week following the tragic death of local man David Sheridan, Ballingeer, who was fatally injured while cutting a tree last Saturday, March 16, at Lansdowne between Portroe and The Lookout.

THE parish of Portroe was in mourning this week following the tragic death of local man David Sheridan, Ballingeer, who was fatally injured while cutting a tree last Saturday, March 16, at Lansdowne between Portroe and The Lookout.

It is understood that Mr Sheridan, 44, was felling the tree when it snapped at around 3.45pm. His funeral took place this Tuesday to Castletown cemetery following Requiem Mass in Portroe Church.

Local parish priest Fr Pat Malone described Mr Sheridan, who was single, as a “very popular man” who would have been “known to everyody”, especially through his attendance at GAA matches. He said the entire parish had been affected by the tragedy.

Fr Malone said the tragedy would be particularly hard on Mr Sheridan’s mother, Christine, as he was great for “minding” her.
