Two major road bowling competitions will be staged in Thurles on the week-end of July 13/14th as part of the Thurles Sarsfields International Hurling Festival.

It is the first time that this long-established sport will be seen in the locality and to mark the occasion the Irish Bowling Association has presented the Cusack Cup to be played for between exponents from the four provinces.

The new competition was announced at Croke Park at the recent launch of the Thurles Sarsfields International Hurling Festival which will feature hurling tournaments for the Semple and Carew Cups, involving teams from all over Ireland, Great Britain and the United States, as well as the European hurling and camogie championship finals, a recreational hurling tournament(Caman Abu) and a hurlball tournament.
