Rain could not dampen the spirits of the extended Wall Fitzpatrick family as they celebrated the 27th Larry Wall Fitzpatrick Memorial Day in The Commons recently.
Relatives of the late musician travelled from all over and Wexford were more than well represented with Michael Fitzpatrick, his wife Bridget and family from Gorey attending in great numbers on the day. Michael (grand nephew of Larry’s) is a very well known musician, historian and author in his home county and acted as M.C. on the day welcoming the many visitors to The Commons. He praised Annie and Eileen Heaphy for their help in organising the event every year and Annie’s late husband Michael who was a great help down through the years. Michael’s brother Tommy and family from Wexford were also present.
Danny Webster from Graine in Urlingford provided some fantastic music with his accordion and it wasn’t long before dancing was underway. His wife Mary told me that Larry Wall Fitzpatrick had a special place in their house as he was “great friends with Danny’s parents. His mother had a photograph of him on display in her house and now the photo has passed to our house”, she said. Larry’s niece Margaret (Cissy) Lawlor and her daughters were in good spirits as they relaxed and enjoyed the music provided by Danny. Many musicians and dancers were lining up to entertain.
