A petition calling for the return of the 22 respite beds at the Community Hospital of the Assumption in Thurles is circulating Mid Tipperary at the present time with the new Mayor of Thurles, Cllr Michael Cleary having pledged his name to the cause.

The petition, which is being organised by Thurles Town Councillors David Doran, Noel O’Dwyer and Jim Ryan, will be presented to Health Minister James O’Reilly TD and may even result in him recovering some of his memory following his “no recollection” of having made a promise in November 2011 to restore the beds by the end of January.
