Councillor Noel O’Dwyer has confessed to being “flattered” when it emerged that his name was put forward as a possibility for designing a traffic island on Killinan road, at a recent meeting of the Thurles Area Councillors.
Speaking at the monthly meeting of Thurles Town Council, Independent Councillor O’Dwyer, tongue in cheek, informed members that Councillor Seamus Hanafin was “obviously impressed by my efforts” at attempting to get remedial works carried out at Loughtagalla Cross.
“As if being mentioned by Councillor Hanafin in such lofty company wasn’t enough to encourage me, I was informed that the Town Clerk suggested I might be willing to supply three dimensional photographs for the project also. Now, what he got confused about was a digitally altered photo indicating what the residents and I would see as safer layout for the junction at Loughtagalla.
But, I understand his mistake such was his desire to jump aboard the laudatory bandwagon. In the unlikely event that I have misinterpreted the remarks of both esteemed gentlemen, I would suggest that perhaps if those on the Area Council were to raise the issues on behalf of the people who elected them,
I wouldn’t have to put in the time, effort and expense of doing it for them,” said Councillor O’Dwyer to rapturous laughter in the council chamber.
