The President is an internationally recognised poet and Rory and he obviously found common ground at the opening of Nenagh Community Garden. Rory told the Tipperary Star that President Higgins said his poem was “very nice”.

FOR MICHAEL D

An Uachtairán Na hEireann Michael D,

A good future in Ireland you can for see,

You have such charm,

You can do no harm,

Your smile is so warm,

And thats always your form,

It would be ever so cool

If you came to our school,

Drom is where we’re located,

Its not that complicated,

At the foot of the “Devil’s Bit,”

Otherwise known as the heart of Tipp,

It’s a rural little spot,

Where the hurling is hot,

Our school has 4 teachers,

Who are world class creatures,

If you’d like a break from the Áras,

Your so welcome open is our doras,

What an honour to have Mr. Higgins,

To visit Drom to cut the ribbons,

There would be a crowd like a blizzard,

If you visit Drom with the scissors,

Is maith linn Michael D,

PLEASE come to Drom for tea!

- Rory O’Dwyer. (Drom NS., Drom, Templemore, Co.Tipperary)
