BIG Mountain Productions, headed by Thurles man Philip McGovern, has been nominated for the IFTA’s (Irish Film and Television Awards) to be held in the National Convention Centre, Dublin, on February 11 for their four-part series The Tenements, presented by actor Bryan Murray
RTE One will televise the awards. The four part series was a massive hit for TV3 when broadcast last August and being nominated is a great honour for the company and the production. “Fingers crossed, we’ll do well on the night but to be nominated by our peers in this hugely competitive awards is great” MD Philip McGovern.
Big Mountain is on a roll at the moment as yet another original format devised and made by the company hit RTE screen last Friday 20th January. Presented by Derek Mooney’s the new game show Who Knows Ireland Best? runs for six weeks and should brighten up our Friday nights before the Late Late Show!
One thousand Irish inhabitants, of every age, from all corners of the country, were asked 100 probing questions about everything from their manners and morals to their beliefs and behaviours such as: have you ever stolen money out of the Trocaire box; and what percentage of the country knows all the words to the national anthem?
This new six-part series then sees two teams, with each having contestants of the same occupation, pit their wits against each other, one of which is an agricultural consultant from Tipperary.
Big Mountain Productions, the company responsible for this brand new show, is also responsible for hugely successful original format series including: RTÉ’s ‘The Genealogy Roadshow’; ‘Craft Master’; ‘Traffic Blues’; and TV3’s ‘The Tenements’ (nominated for an IFTA).
The production company, which focuses on popular factual and original factual/entertainment formatted programmes for both national and international broadcast platforms, has done extensive work with major broadcasters such as the BBC, RTÉ, TG4 and TV3.
Big Mountain is headed up by husband and wife team -Jane Kelly and Philip McGovern.
Who Knows Ireland Best? airs on RTÉ One on Friday nights at 8.30pm.
