The name of a brave Cloughjordan soldier is to be included in Cavan County Council’s a roll of honour to commemorate all the men from the county who died during The Great War.

Details of the people who died in WWI from Cavan will be included in the publication. When completed the roll will be available in libraries throughout County Cavan and a CD version will be available.

Among those to be remembered will be Sgt James Somers, originally from Belturbet in Cavan but who spent much of his time working in County Tipperary as his family relocated from Cavan to Cloughjordan just before the War.

Sgt Somers was awarded a Victoria Cross for his bravery during the landings in Gallipoli in 1915.
