Speaking at the awards ceremony Minister Hogan said: “I’m delighted to pay tribute today to all of the enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers who get involved in the Tidy Towns competition year on year. It’s fantastic to see this competition continue to flourish and grow; this year we’ve had a record number of entries – 821 groups in all. Tidy Towns volunteers make a huge difference in their communities; the results of their efforts can be seen across the country in attractive, and well cared-for towns and villages. This year the South-East region has done particularly well, having landed the titles of Ireland’s Tidiest Village, Tidiest Small Town and Tidiest Large Urban Centre. Congratulations to Emly, Lismore and Kilkenny City the winners of these awards and congratulations too to all of the other winners across the region.”

The Minister also thanked Tidy Towns’ sponsor SuperValu. “SuperValu’s sponsorship of Tidy Towns has continued now for twenty years. Their involvement in Tidy Towns at local and national level during this time has really helped to develop and grow the competition and is a real demonstration of their commitment to supporting local communities.“

Ray Kelly, of SuperValu, said; “Tidy Towns is the public expression of the work countless individuals undertake to build community spirit and make their local area a better place to live. SuperValu together with its countrywide network of local retailers is - through the continued sponsorship of TidyTowns - committed to helping build and support vibrant local communities. I am delighted to congratulate this year’s winners and to recognise the commitment and dedication of Tidy Town committees in the South East region who make such a real difference at a local level”.
