HIGHER CERTIFICATE in SCIENCE in CONSTRUCTION PRACTICE (Level 6)
This programme provides a grounding in the processes employed in the construction sector, upon completion it provides the graduate with the competencies to enter employment at technician level and also provides an ideal platform for progression to further study.
This is a unique programme with up to 60% of timetabled hours devoted to “hands-on” practical activities in state of the art industrial type workshops. Following an induction period at the start of year one the student will select one of the following specialisms: a) Wood Technology; b) Masonry or c) Plasterwork. Site Practice and Workshop Practice for the chosen specialism are then studied over the two years.
HIGHER CERTIFICATE in ENGINEERING in ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT (Level 6)
Graduates from this two year programme will possess knowledge, skills and understanding of Environmental Management from a traditional Civil Engineering standpoint. The programme covers skill areas: GIS surveying, Water distribution and condition, Materials Recycling in Construction, IT, Graphics, Waste and Energy Management, Teamwork and Communication. These skills will enable graduates to find employment at technician level within contracting, professional practices, government agencies and other organisations involved in the “Green Economy” sector.

Course to upgrade business skills
Limerick IT have put together a one-year postgraduate programme designed for people who want to up skill in business management. “This course is ideal for people who are coming from other disciplines in a work or college environment,” said Marian Duggan Head of School LIT. “We target this programme at people who may have worked in construction, manufacturing, science, engineering who now wish to gain business management skills for improving job prospects or promotion”. The programme offers the skills to allow students convert from other disciplines into the business world or augment their existing qualifications to improve employment prospects.
Entry is open to all level 8, level 7 students with experience and through Recognised Prior Learning (workplace experience).
Modules taught on the programme are Contemporary Marketing and Branding, Strategic Management, HRM - OB, Financial Decision Making, Economics for Business, New Venture Creation
