Tipperary TD Noel Coonan is encouraging Tipperary communities in need of high speed fibre broadband to apply for eircom’s FibrePower Competition which will see one community in rural Ireland receive infrastructure of up to €250,000 by eircom Wholesale.

“Belcarra in County Mayo has benefitted from this initiative. Eircom deployed a high speed broadband network to their small community including 150 homes, two national schools and a mart. This could happen to a Tipperary community and an investment of approximately €250,000 is anticipated to the winning entry,” said Deputy Coonan.

“Eircom are encouraging creativity and, as part of an entry, to tell in your own words, song, video why your community should be the next area to benefit. You must ensure your community is in the intervention footprint which the competition team will check for you. Necessary details include the number of homes in the community, the number of residents who could work from home, distance from a large town. More information is available on eircom’s fibrerollout website. Entries close on September 15,” said Deputy Coonan.
