Chairman Derek Russell said the town has come a long way from the situation it was in this time last year. Mr Russell took questions from local townspeople and updated them on progress around the town. Scoil Coláiste held a very successful Expo recently and up 550 people attended the Youth Awards. In relation to drugs and alcohol abuse: “It’s fair to say that the guards have brought the drugs issue under control,” said Mr Russell. “That was done with the help of the people of Roscrea. It’s well on the way to being solved.” Mental health issues are still of major concern. Some J31,000 was spent by RSU on helping affected individuals over the last 12 months. The money went to pay Counsellors who themselves accepted reduced pay. RSU will need further help as it cannot continue to fund this level of counselling on its current budget, added Mr Russell.
