Cllr Seanie Lonergan has called on the government to tighten the law on prostitution.

Up to 20 women in Tipperary, including about five in Cashel, are believed to be involved in prostitution at any one time. Cllr Lonergan stated: “This Council recognises that the trafficking, exploitation, and abuse of women and girls is taking place throughout the country as a direct result of prostitution. The Council believes human rights abuses can be ended by targeting the demand for prostitution by introducing laws which make it an offence to pay for sex.”
