Near Tragedy in Rover Suir
“This is an issue that I take very seriously and for years I fought to have lifebuoys installed at the river walk as the previous ones were taken away due to vandalism. I was delighted new buoys were installed last year but I feel more need to be made available. I received a complaint recently regarding a very near tragedy at Turtulla Bridge when a teenager got into difficulty in the river at that spot. A passer by witnessed this incident and was appalled that no life buoys were available for her to throw into the river to help the struggling swimmer. This is a very busy walkway and I strongly believe that a number of life buoys should be installed along the river bank and also warning signs should be put up telling people of the dangers of swimming in the river. I appeal to people not to interfere or vandalise any life buoys in Thurles.
