Responding to the HSE West Area Service Plan 2012 published this week, Noel Coonan TD said he is heartened that the three community-based nursing homes in North Tipperary are safe from closure.

“It is very welcome news that no community hospital will close in the Mid-West HSE Area including St. Conlon’s Community Nursing Unit, Dean Maxwell Community Nursing Unit and Community Hospital of the Assumption in the North Tipperary area.

“Alongside this, it is clear that a firm foundation has been set to concentrate on building up the services. Funding for HSE Mid-West has been historically low in the past and particularly bad in the North Tipperary area. Rising from our funding concerns, Health Minister James Reilly has put in place a review which will be carried out by Mr. B. Fitzgerald who has vast experience in financial control and spending on a major Dublin hospital.
