Tracing ‘Butler’ Family Connections in South Tipperary Region

My late father-in-law Patrick Butler was formerly from South Tipperary. His father was named John Butler. The townsland they came from is not readily known. Patrick Butler was a farm labourer and he went to Kilkenny between the years 1920-1944 to work on the farm of the Rice family and also with the Fleming family.

He was an accomplished ploughman with horses. Patrick met and married Mary Brennan of Coon, Castlecomer, Co. Kilkenny. They had a family of three girls and one boy, Maureen, Ann, Margaret and Patrick (Jnr.) They resided at Ballinalina, Bamford, Kells Road, Kilkenny. My late father-in-law Patrick Butler died in 1965.

I later married his daughter Margaret who sadly passed to her eternal reward in 2000. My father-in-law was an accomplished hurler with Foulkstown Hurling Club and Patrick Butler (son) was Kilkenny All-Ireland Minor Hurling Captain v Cork in 1969 final.

I would wish to hear from anyone in South Tipperary region who would have some information for me on my late father-in-law Patrick Butler and perhaps his father John Butler, i.e. the townsland in South Tipperary they came from? Any relatives still surviving? etc.

Any information I would greatly appreciate, phone (0505) 42947 or (087) 9032777.

Thank you,

Tom Harrigan (Son-in-law),
