17 weeks wait for test is 'outrageous'

Drivers in Tipperary town are waiting seventeen weeks for a driving test and calls were made this week for the Department of Transport, tourism and Sport to appoint more driver testers. At a meeting of Cashel/Tipperary Municipal Council Cllr. Michael Fitzgerald highlighted the issue and said the waiting period was far too long. “It’s over a quarter of a year, people need to pass their test to enable them apply for jobs” he said. Cllr. Fitzgerald said seventeen weeks was an outrageous length of time to have to wait for a driving test and he appealed to the Department of Transport to appoint more testers.

A motion tabled by Cllr. Fitzgerald, calling on the Department to appoint more drivers, was seconded by Chairman Cllr. Roger Kennedy and supported by the other members.
