A Killenaule boy, who suffers with severe quadriplegic cerebral Palsy, has had his dream of getting up close and personal with some of the most exotic animals from across the world come true, thanks to the Share a Dream Foundation.
Animal mad Alex Butler, aged five, from Killenaule was whisked off in style to Fota Island this week with his family after contacting the Share a Dream Foundation earlier this year.
Alex, who also suffers with uncontrolled epilepsy, severe sleep apnoea, Iarangomalicia and vision impairment, had to spend long stays in hospital undergoing treatment due to his seizures last Christmas and missed out on family time with his twin brother Adam and three older siblings.
After Alex began to improve his home nurse recommended that his mother Margaret contact the Share a Dream Foundation to see if the organisation could organise a special surprise for the animal loving boy.
"He loves animals and going to the zoo so this is a perfect trip to take him away on. He can't wait,” says mum Margaret who is Alex's full time carer.
“You don't usually think about going away on a break as its difficult to get the kids organised and find somewhere that suits our needs so when Share A Dream suggested it we thought it was a fantastic idea as everything is organised for you and all procedures are put in place to make sure everything runs as smooth as possible,” she adds.
“It was a pleasure meeting Alex, his mum Margaret and Dad Michael and we are delighted to be able to organise a well earned break in Cork with the wonderful support of the Radisson Blu hotel for the Butler family,” said Shay Kinsella.
Share a Dream was set up by Thurles man Shay Kinsella in 1992 and to date the organisation has worked with over 24,500 children helping to make dreams come true. The Share a Dream Foundation is also opening a specially built all inclusive and accessible fun centre.
Bookings for Dreamland will be opening shortly, for special parties and occasions and will be the ultimate party world and is for all children able bodied or disabled. www.dreamland.ie Tel: 061200080/200083.
