New features on 'Through the Ages' site

This month on there are some new features.

This month’s articles give an insight into what life was like during the Famine. There is another new section called Folklore.

In the mid-1930s all 6th class school pupils were asked to write down stories told to them by people of the older generation. This month’s articles include a story of a local eviction. An old person’s reflection on thatching and “The legend of the barrel that was never empty.

In the Audio section there is a piece featuring Kieran Mc Nicholas interviewing Fr Tony Cahir about the formation of Roscrea Youth Club in 1969. This month also features some more old photos of Main St and Castle St along with a print of John’s tower on the Mall from 1793. If anyone has a story or picture or would like to contribute to the site in any way email: or contact Joe Coughlan at 087 8140137.
